Seriously what is with that bias against her older son and favouritism towards her younger son? He’s already made emperor, what else do you want to do? And aren’t they both your son? It’s as if the 4th isn’t her son. She even smashed the jade bangle he got her just because of that. What…a nuisance.

按古代的道德标准是对先皇的背叛.她没有理由背叛她陪伴了一辈子的先帝.并不是只要是她儿子当皇帝就好不管是哪个都行的.背叛先帝是绝对不容许的.你不能拿现代的道德观念来分析她.要从古代人的角度来看,要从她这个深宫妃子的角度来看.
之前她也许是有偏心小儿子,但我觉得并没有那么严重.从她的角度上看,在继位这件事上完全错了的是大儿子(当然她在深宫中,不可能了解13爷的事情,8爷党的事情和四爷一定要当皇帝的复杂情势).所以她的反应和态度一点也不奇怪.

The emperor wanted to see her all the time. If she had a title, for him to see her, he had to draw a lot among his concubines’ list. It was a smart move. =D

well, in the drama he did. but in the real history, historians had no answer. it s still a mystery!
Its not really a mystery. Kangxi passed it to Yongzheng in history. the full royal decree states 4’s name Yinzhen in chinese which is not forgable, and would have said 皇四子 so it’ll be kinda hard to just get rid of the 10 in between and not leave a very suspicious gap. Further, like contracts in Hongkong, it would have been in 2 languages, Chinese and Manchu and Manchu is apparently really hard to forge.
Also, the military might was given to 4’s obvious supporters which is a pretty clear sign who he wanted to be king.
The rumours are jus created by 8 and 14 etc as a final bid to unseat Yongzhen and gaint the throne.
That is one thing I didnt like about the novel, that she sided with the rumours and made Yongzhen do all those horrible things to cover it up.
what’s with the letter Lü Wu wrote Ruoxi, I don’t really get it. Why is she leaving 13th and going to Jiangnan being filial???
she actually killed herself. her parents had broken the law in some way and was killed. so she is some what like a sinner. she felt that if her background was spilled out, she would shame the 13th prince.
And also not to burden her little daughter’s life. Coz the other wife told her into the ear in the garden, that the little girl will not be able to marry to a prince or noble man if LuWu dont die, dont want to give up her daughter to be cared by “noble-wives”
Lu wu’s family was one of the ones ‘convicted’ of a huge felong back in Kangxi’s time. ‘Wen zi yu’ was a literary suppression movement to stop anti-Qing writings, and I think Lu Wu’s family was accused of seditious writing. This was like a huge deal in Qing dynasty, sometimes enough to have the whole family executed.
When 13 came out of isolation, he asked Yongzhen to give Lu Wu a legitimate title. She knew that if that happened, then 8 and 9 would report Lu Wu’s background, and possible get 13 demoted or even investigated and charged and it would also make her daughter an outcast with no marriage prospects.
13’s other wife didn’t know this, she was just mocking LuWu’s prostitute background, but the effect would be the same if either of the truths came out. But LuWu knew that 13 really wanted her to be legitimate and probably wouldnt let it go, so she chose to die rather than to make trouble for him.
RuoXi guessed all this and made up the lie that LuWu chose to leave because now that 13 is okay, she would be betraying her family if she stayed with the royals who had executed them.
what and who is “福晉”?
福晉 just means the wife of an aristocrat, so all the wives of the ah ge’s are Fujins
福晉 = wife of the prince. there can be alot of 福晉 but there will be one main 福晉 and max 8 other 福晉. as long as he is the prince, his official wife is call 福晉.
