yes ice chests/boxes were not invented but they did have ice.
ice was collected in mass quantities from frozen rivers in winter and stored deep down in the ground to be used in the summer.
Of course this wasn’t possible for peasants but the Qing royals were quite famous for loving their ice to escape the summer heat.
Maybe the Director DID do his research 😀
